Andrew Wins Big in CVMA Finale

CVMA Race #6 Finale November 12-13, 2011 at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway

The weather forecast for Saturday included a possible chance of rain. Andrew was excited for this opportunity to race in the rain again, but while the clouds loomed overhead all day the rain never came. Andrew’s first race was Formula Twins. Mounted on his West Coast GP Cycles-CT Racing/Pirelli-shod SV650 Andrew got a good start and hit turn 1 in 3rd. He rode well maintaining contact with the leaders all while putting in a personal best lap time of 1:56.2 and finishing 3rd. In Supersport Twins Andrew once again went flag to flag for a dominating win. The final race of the day was the Lightweight Team Challenge. This time Andrew’s teammate, Dustin Coyner, would ride first. Dustin had a great ride getting almost half a lap leap on 2nd place by the time he came in for the tag. Andrew then went out and put the finishing stamp on the race as he lapped 2nd just before the checkered flag.

Sunday morning brought clear skies and warmer temps perfect for a season finale race day. Andrew woke up ready for the final races of the season knowing this was his last chance at a win in Formula Twins and looking to lock up the championship in the Lightweight Shootout. In Formula Twins Andrew got a good start and moved in to 2nd in the first lap. He stalked the leader for 2 laps and then made the move into 1st. Andrew then dropped the hammer and put down 3 personal best laps in the 1:55 range to win his first Formula Twins race. The last race was the Lightweight Shootout where Andrew was 13 points in the lead. Andrew carried his momentum into this race and hit the front in turn 1. Never looking back Andrew dropped into the 1:55’s gapping second place and winning the race with a last lap of 1:55.0 and securing another championship.

That completes Andrew’s 2011 CVMA season. He won 3 championships aboard his West Coast GP Cycles-CT Racing/Pirelli-shod SV650 including Supersport Twins, Lightweight Shootout, and Lightweight Team Challenge with his teammate Dustin Coyner and finished 3rd in Formula Twins. This is what Andrew had to say after the races,“I was really excited for this weekend. I just got my new NJK leathers and I was ready to test them out on the bike. I also really wanted to win a Formula Twins race and getting into the low 1:55s was amazing. This has been the best year riding for Andy Palmer and his West Coast GP Cycles team and teaming up with Dustin to win the Team Challenge was great. I am really excited for next year knowing I will again have the strong support from the West Coast GP Cycles team and from my awesome sponsors. Thanks to everyone who believed in me and helped me have a successful year!”
